#5 HK Media Attack The Church of Almighty God, Peril to Religious Freedom in HK - Massimo Introvigne

#5 HK Media Attack The Church of Almighty God, Peril to Religious Freedom in HK - Massimo Introvigne

On November 20–21, 2017, in just two days, seventeen reports attacking The Church of Almighty God (CAG) were published intensively on Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po, the mouthpiece media of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Hong Kong (HK), citing the rumors and fallacies consistently fabricated by the CCP to discredit and condemn the CAG. What signal can we get from the CCP’s sudden attack and condemnation against the CAG in HK? What will the situation of religion be like in HK? Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), makes comment on this

In one of the reports, it was emphasized that though HK residents have freedom of religious belief, cults must be banned. Some analysts pointed out that it is closely related to the CCP’s desire to enact Article 23 of the Basic Law of HK. Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), makes comment on this.

#10 The CCP Claims the Conditions of Religion in China Are Favorable. Massimo Introvigne: NOT True

#10 The CCP Claims the Conditions of Religion in China Are Favorable. Massimo Introvigne: NOT True

In 2017, from June 24 to 28, and from September 14 to 15, the Chinese Communist Party had held two international anti-cult academic conferences successively in Henan and Hong Kong. In a subsequent Chinese official report, it reads, “Experts express that from this research study, sufficient understanding has been gained on China’s religious and anti-cult policies, dispelling previous misunderstanding about the issues of cults in China. At the same time, the conditions of religious belief in China are observed to be favorable. The grassroots’ freedom of belief is well protected.” Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), who was invited to both conferences, debunks the report as follows.

#11CCP Intends Western Scholars to Justify Its Persecuting Religion. Backfired! - Massimo Introvigne

OVIGNE#11CCP INTENDS WESTERN SCHOLARS TO JUSTIFY ITS PERSECUTING RELIGION. BACKFIRED! – MASSIMO INTR

Since the CCP took power, it has spared no effort in brutally repressing and eradicating religious belief, and has been creating public scandals for this purpose. In recent years, the CCP has extended its evil hands toward foreign countries. In the red-titled document, The Key Work in 2017 of Henan Provincial 610 Office, which was issued on March 31, 2017, it reads, “Mobilize influential voices of American and Western experts, scholars, journalists, and patriotic emigrant leaders to generate favorable media comments overseas.” In June and September of 2017 respectively, the CCP had held two international anti-cult academic conferences successively in Henan and Hong Kong. Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), who was invited to both conferences as a prominent expert, makes comment on how the CCP clamps down on religious belief under the pretext of banning cults as follows.

Nine International NGOs Jointly Condemn the CCP’s Persecution of The Church of Almighty God

On November 28, 2017, nine international non-governmental organizations, including Coordination of Associations and Individuals for Freedom of Conscience (CAP Freedom of Conscience), the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), and the European Interreligious Forum for Religious Freedom (EIFRF), jointly issued a statement condemning the CCP's efforts to attack and discredit The Church of Almighty God by using the media and swaying public opinion in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other regions. The nine NGOs pointed out that "The fact that several articles against The Church of Almighty God appeared at the same time in different countries cannot be a coincidence. It is part of an effort by the Chinese regime to hide the fact that it violates the provisions of international conventions on religious liberty it has subscribed, something for which it keeps being condemned by international organizations." The NGOs also urged responsible media outlets to consult the existing academic literature on The Church of Almighty God, and to refrain from repeatedly reposting false news spread by the Chinese regime.
